Independent Bookstore Day 2025

Independent Bookstore Day is a one-day national party that takes place at indie bookstores across the country on the last Saturday in April. It’s a day when readers are encouraged to show their support for indie bookstores by spending time, money and social media attention on them.

Existing as an independent bookstore is not, on its own, a moral good. We started Hive Mind Books in part because we were tired of working for bookstores that used the word “community” as a marketing tactic instead of a mission.

We would like to reframe Independent Bookstore Day as Independent Booksellers Day. It is the booksellers themselves who make each bookstore worth visiting, who forge that sense of community that is possible and precious in third spaces.

Support your booksellers. Bring them cookies today! Tell them you love their staff picks! Ask them for a book recommendation and then buy the book! Show your booksellers love today.
