Design a Book Cover with Jedidiah Dore

Join us at Hive Mind Books to learn how to Design A Beautiful Book cover with Illustrator Jedidiah Dore!

Imagine what it would be like to design an exciting book cover. What are the techniques and processes involved in creating book covers for Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Thriller, History, Travel, or other literary genres? This class will show you the foundation of great book cover design and how to produce an engaging book cover using a variety of innovative design methods. Design A Beautiful Book cover will also focus on an introduction to classic book designs, artistic ideas and methods used in various literary genres, and then put those ideas into practice with a step by step art lesson on how to make your own book cover. Each student will take away a completed book cover design in full color by the end of the two hour class.


Suggested materials to make the most of the class:

  • Waterproof gel pen (writing pen) black

  • Basic watercolor set

  • Watercolor paper (8x10 or larger)

  • One pencil and kneaded eraser

  • You may also want to bring your laptop, but it is not required.

  • Extra Options, definitely not required: Pastels (oil or dry), colored pencils, crayons, 2-3 various art brushes (square and wide)

Three ticket options:

  • $25 ticket - bring your own paint and paper.

  • $40 ticket - we will provide the materials when you arrive.

  • A pay-what-you-can donation is also available.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jedidiah Dore is an Artist and Educator based in Brooklyn, NYC. He specializes in reportage illustration and painting. He is currently commissioned to paint a large-scale NYC Murals Project at the landmark Daily News Building in Manhattan and create art for an upcoming exhibition for NASA. Jedidiah and his work have been featured in publications including VoyageHouston’s “Thought Provoker’s Series,” British GQ, and features in PBS, ALL Arts, Artnet, and in books such as "Pen and Ink", "Reportage drawing: Visual Journalism", "STELLAR", and "NYC5 Over, Under, Through".
